Myopia (nearsightedness) Management
Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a common eye condition that makes seeing objects or reading from a distance more challenging. It occurs due to a malformation of the eye’s cornea or lens, which improperly directs light into the eye, making distance vision blurry. This eye malformation occurs during early childhood development and becomes progressively more severe as the child ages and stabilizes between 20 and 30 years old.
The symptoms of myopia include:
- Difficulty seeing objects or reading from a distance
- Eyestrain
- Headaches
- Squinting
Myopia is one of the most common eye conditions and affects 1 out of 4 Americans. It is typically diagnosed between the ages of 8 and 12 and is easily managed with corrective lenses or contacts. There is no cure for myopia, but emerging medical therapies may slow the progression of this disorder.
Atropine Eye Drops
WeCare Pharmacy offers atropine eye drops as an innovative therapy for your child’s myopia management. Research shows that these drops effectively slow the progression of childhood myopia when used in combination with corrective contact lenses or spectacles.
Low-concentration atropine eye drops are effective and well-tolerated by most patients.
Side-effects of atropine ophthalmic solution may occur but are less prevalent in lower concentrations. Common side effects include:
- Blurry vision
- Light sensitivity
- Burning or stinging during application
Talk with your child’s ophthalmologist about atropine for myopia management, or contact WeCare Pharmacy at 844-309-3782 or info@wecarepharm.com for more information.
Dry Eye Disease (DED)
Dry eyes and other ocular surface disorders occur when you cannot produce enough lubricating tears to keep your eyes moisturized. Dry eyes are uncomfortable and can lead to serious vision changes or eye damage if left untreated.
The symptoms of dry eyes include:
- Stinging
- Burning
- Redness
- Light sensitivity
- Blurry vision
- Scratchy or feeling like something is in the eye
This condition is quite common, affecting 1 out of 10 adult Americans. Some people are more prone to dry eyes, including women, people over 50 years old, wearers of contact lenses, and individuals with vitamin A or omega-3 deficiencies.
WeCare Pharmacy offers several compound preparations to treat your dry eyes and keep you comfortable, including serum eye drops and prescription medications.
Autologous Serum Eye Drops
Many medical conditions can cause ocular surface disorders, and a newly emerging therapy is proving to be an effective treatment for dry and damaged eyes.
Autologous serum is a blood-derived product created especially for each patient by isolating their own nutrient-rich plasma from blood samples, diluting it with sterile saline, and bottling it for use. The proteins and growth hormones found in these drops heal the eye’s outer surface while simultaneously lubricating and relieving acute symptoms of dry eyes.
Because autologous serum drops are composed of your unique proteins, hormones, and electrolytes, they are nearly identical to the tears naturally produced by your body and are more effective than artificial tears purchased over the counter.
